The Newtons I have and had.

I have had a total of three newtons, of which I currently still own two.

The eMate 300

My first Newton was a eMate 300, I just bought it for the coolness of the machine. I bought it from a friend who was able to get his hands on a few for a 'garage sale' price and we swapped money and machine at a quarterly Gathering / Sale organized by Stichting Klokhuis. When we tested and explored the machines, almost every passerby was asking "where do they sell them ?" or "Do you want to sell it ?".
I used the machine to keep track of my video and audio cd collection using Morgan Pro. One of the first add-ons I installed was the Text-to-Speech extension, so I could make the Handspring users at work turn green of envy. After I bought my MP 130, I only used it with Morgan Pro, since the keyboard still beats the Rosetta HWR hands down when entering bulk data. After I changed from my trusty MP130 to a MP2000 it is gathering dust.

My second Newton was a MP 130 with a German OS. I bought it from a friend, who bought it via the German eBay. On one of the 'Klokhuis' dagen I found some Newton software on their original diskettes and with their manuals. I bought TimeTracker in order to keep track of all the time I spend on the various projects at work. I also purchased a copy of outlink in order to synchronise my calender with outlook 2000 at work. The HWR on this machine is quite adequate. Writing in Dutch using a German dictionary was not a big issue, since I could add some difficult to recognise words to the user dictionary. I also used NewtDB in an attempt to create a database of all the PC's and their users in the company. The database worked fine, but I never got around to make the inventory. After I got my hands on a MP 2000, I sold the machine including it's dock. I gave my phone number and e-mail address to the new owner, and I haven't heard from him till this very day.

The MessagePad 2000

My third Newton is a MP2000. I bought it second hand from a collector, who offered me his MP2100. Since I did not have the money for it on me, I skipped his offer (I regretted it later). It's microphone is broken and cannot be repaired anymore, so no voice notes possible. I had the beauty upgraded to a MP2100 (memory upgrade) by PixSolution, they also tried to repair the microphone for me at no extra expense. I expanded it with a Lucent Wavelan WiFi card and a 32MB Memory Card.
I used it at the office with TimeTracker to keep track of all the time I spend on the various projects. Installed NPDS on it, in order to
have the smallest web server in the company, I worked as IT manager for a Internet design company that did it's own hosting. I used it to keep track of all my video/DVD/CD/Books (moved the data to FileMaker Pro so I can sync it with my Treo 650), agenda, timesheets, note taker during study and occasionally web server.
